Colleen Carlson presents: “A Pattern is Just a Suggestion”
- Date: Saturday, May 3, 2020
- Time: Noon
- Cost: $20
Colleen Carlson learned to sew in 4-H in her hometown of Cavalier, North Dakota. She wasn’t fond of it. Aside from simple mending, she didn’t sew for years. Then in 1999, she was dragged by a friend into a quilt shop where she spotted a wonky log cabin quilt. Colleen thought, “I can sew crooked. I can make that!” She started quilting and never stopped.
Colleen is an award-winning quilter who likes contemporary fabrics and modern designs. She has shown quilts regionally and nationally in juried shows.
Colleen’s mother frequently said, “A pattern is just a suggestion.” Come see Colleen’s adjustments to patterns and pictures. From small steps to large leaps, she will show examples with slides and quilts. Soak up inspiration to make your own design choices.

2020 Challenge Fabric
The 2020 Quilt Show Challenge is underway! This year’s fabric is a tone-on-tone blue designed by Dan Morris and manufactured by Quilted Treasures. Quilters use the fabric and follow rules to make a project that is displayed at the show. Attendees then vote for their favorite, and the winner gets a prize!
If you’ve made a quilt with the challenge fabric and want it displayed at the show, please contact Theresa Bennett (email@example.com).
If you want to participate in the 2022 challenge, fabric will be available for purchase at the quilt show.
